When you think of foreign destinations, you may think of Europe or Asia, but if you’ve never been to Africa, the wild and exciting continent is worth a trip. Here, our Philadelphia Airport parking members have some suggestions on the best places to go:
Marrakech, Morocco
Otherwise known as the “Red City,” Marrakech offers an array of beautiful gardens, mosques, palaces, and markets that you can easily spend all day meandering through. Discover the secrets of the historic medina, explore the tranquility of the Jardin Majorelle, or simply enjoy the local cuisine.
Table Mountain, South Africa
This flat-topped landmark (pictured above) overlooks the city of Cape Town, South Africa and makes for a beautiful and scenic beach experience. Standing at more than 3,400 feet high with a two-mile plateau, it’s a striking mountain that you can visit via cable car or, if you’re a little more adventurous, via one of the many popular hiking trails.
Diani Beach, Kenya
If your ideal vacation includes laying on a beach, head about an hour south of Mombasa to Diani Beach. You’ll find sparkling white sand, lush greenery, turquoise waters, and an overall relaxation among the locals. You can even book a safari or take a camel ride once you’ve finished exploring the local villages.
Victoria Falls, Zambia/Zimbabwe
If you head to Africa, don’t miss one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the world. Located on the Zambezi River between Zambia and Zimbabwe, this 355 foot-high waterfall spans 5,604 feet, making it the longest waterfall in the world. Best of all, you’ll find several great lookout spots where you can simply sit back and enjoy the wonder of such a spectacle.
Nosy Be, Madagascar
This large island off the northwest coast of Madagascar makes for a unique vacation experience. With volcanic lakes, rum distilleries, Ylang Ylang plantations, and a variety of interesting wildlife, you’ll find plenty to do. You can even explore the area’s elaborate coral reefs or head to the Lokobe Nature Special Reserve to discover flora and fauna.
The Pyramids, Egypt
If northeastern Africa is your destination, you can’t visit the area without seeing the famed pyramids. Though there have been more than 115 identified Egyptian pyramids, the oldest, largest, and most popular one is the Pyramid of King Cheops. Otherwise known as the Great Pyramid, it was built in 2650 BC, it stands 455 feet tall, and is made from 2.5 million blocks of limestone.
