According to AAA, more than 41 million people will be traveling this Memorial Day. Whether you don’t have plans or you still haven’t made them, there are a few places you can go with lower-than-usual flight or hotel prices this weekend. Here, our PHL Airport parking company shares eight ideas for your last-minute travel:
Honolulu
If Hawaii has always been on your bucket list, take advantage of this year’s low flight prices (due to new competition by Southwest Airlines) and head there this Memorial Day weekend. Enjoy beautiful turquoise waters, visit Pearl Harbor, set out on a lush green hike, or explore the city’s top restaurants and clubs.
Las Vegas
Right now, flights to Sin City are down by 14 percent and you can find hotel prices at up to 25 percent off. Hit the city during shoulder season for fewer crowds, better package deals, and warm temperatures. Catch an unforgettable show, check out a swanky nightclub, or try your luck at more than 40 casinos on the Strip.
Miami
Pack in a trip to Miami before hurricane season (which starts in June) and you’ll enjoy flights that are 16 percent lower than they were a few years ago. You’ll also find hotel discounts throughout the area and Fort Lauderdale, so if you were hoping to come home with a nice tan, there’s plenty of beach space to soak up the sun.
Riviera Maya
If Mexico is calling you this Memorial Day weekend, head to the Riviera Maya. The area offers some great prices on resorts and hotels May-October, which means lounging on the white sand beaches is a little more affordable. You can also discover mysterious water caves, snorkel along the Great Maya Reef, or go back in time with a visit to the Mayan ruins.
San Diego
Planning a family trip? Why not head to San Diego, where you’ll find fun for all ages at the San Diego Zoo, SeaWorld, 1,200-acre Balboa Park, and the historic Hotel del Coronado. Check out hotels like the Manchester Grand Hyatt or the Hotel Republic San Diego for some good holiday deals.
Chicago
Memorial Day is a great time to head to Chicago - the weather is still mild, flights are affordable, and you can find some great hotel deals. During the weekend, catch the annual holiday parade on Saturday, take a boat tour around the city, or head to Navy Pier and grab a beer from the beer garden right before the fireworks show.
Seattle
It’s still early for peak Seattle travel season, which means many of the cit’s great hotels haven’t raised their prices yet. Head there for the weekend and the weather should be nice enough to enjoy the iconic Pike Place Market, take a hike through the lush outdoors, or even take a day trip on the country’s largest ferry system.
Montreal
Make the most of the American dollar and take a trip to Montreal, Canada. Check out the annual Memorial Day Weekend Craft Festival, stroll through the Montreal Botanical Garden, or simply surround yourself with cafes, cobblestone streets, the French language, and the overall European feel of Old City.
