Escape on a Budget
At our Philly Airport parking company, we’re always looking for great getaways for an affordable price. Here, we’ve rounded up ten of our favorite locations that make for a fun winter vacation without the high prices:
Tulum, Mexico
Because of Mexico’s warm temperatures, the city of Tulum tends to be popular during December and January. However, head there in February or March and you’ll find hotels and resorts for a more affordable price. The seaside community on the Yucatan Peninsula boasts picture-perfect beaches, historic ruins, boutique hotels, and plenty of activities to keep you busy.
Amsterdam, Netherlands
Looking for somewhere romantic to go? Amsterdam is beautiful in the wintertime. With snow-lined canals, quaint cafes, and an overall charm that can’t be beat, you can discover a whole new side to the Netherlands’ capital city. Enjoy lower airfares (some with layovers in Lisbon or Porto) and lower hotel prices.
Quebec City, Quebec
When you think of a winter vacation, you probably think of warmer temperatures and beachfront properties, but heading north can also make for a great trip. Quebec City’s discounted bed & breakfasts and a favorable exchange rate mean you can enjoy an exciting winter city for an affordable price.
Las Vegas, Nevada
Sin City is one of the most well-known affordable winter destinations around - especially if you go after New Year’s. Airfares tend to drop during the winter and while many hotels are still around $200 a night, if you stay just outside the Strip, you can find rooms for around 1/4 of that price.
San Diego, California
With warm weather year-round and plenty of beaches to enjoy, San Diego is a popular place to go during the winter. And with whale migration season occurring December through March, you can do some whale watching. Save some money by purchasing combo tickets for some of the most popular attractions.
Venice, Italy
High season in Europe is during the summer, which means you’ll find fewer crowds and lower prices if you head to Venice in the winter. Cold temperatures tend to bring in a thick mist that settles over the canals, which makes for a beautiful, surreal atmosphere. And don’t worry - romantic gondola rides run year round.
New Orleans, Louisiana
Winter temperatures in New Orleans rarely dip below freezing, which means you’ll have the perfect weather for strolling around the city. The French Quarter is chock full of delicious Creole food, live music, and historic hotels. Just make sure to go before or after Mardi Gras season when prices are inflated.
Cheyenne, Wyoming
While Aspen and Vail, Colorado are great ski destinations, Cheyenne is just a few hours away and a great alternative. With fewer crowds, lower prices, and plenty of cross-country skiing, ice fishing, and ice boating opportunities, you can still enjoy a beautiful winter getaway without breaking the bank.
Boracay Island, Philippines
For a great beach vacation without the crowds, head over to Boracay Island in the Philippines. The small island features beautiful white sand beaches and plenty of water activities including snorkeling, surfing, cliff diving, and more. Plus, if you go in January or February, you’re likely to have the place to yourself.
Cleveland, Ohio
While Cleveland may not be the first place you think of for a winter getaway, the city is an up-and-coming foodie and craft beer destination. With competitive flight prices and a bundle of affordable hotel options, you can enjoy a vacation on a budget. Make sure you check out the city’s many museums, beautiful architecture, and lakefront views.
